Bank Phone Number Spoofing
Beware of Bank Phone Number Scams: Protect Yourself from Fraud
Scammers are getting more sophisticated, and one of the latest tactics involves spoofing—where fraudsters disguise their phone number to appear as if they’re calling or texting from First State Bank & Trust (FSBT). These scams are designed to trick you into providing personal or financial information.
How the Scam Works
Fake Calls: You may receive a call that appears to be from FSBT, claiming there’s fraudulent activity on your account. The caller may pressure you into clicking a link in a text, and/or providing sensitive details like your account number, PIN, or online banking password.
Fake Texts: Scammers may also send texts that look like they’re from FSBT, warning of suspicious activity. These messages often contain a link asking you to verify your account details—but clicking could expose your information to fraudsters.
How to Spot and Avoid the Scam
FSBT will NEVER:
- Call, text, or email asking for your PIN, password, or account details.
- Ask you to click a link to verify account activity.
- Pressure you into making an immediate decision over the phone.
What You Should Do:
- Ignore & Delete: If you receive a suspicious text, do not click any links.
- Hang Up & Call FSBT Directly: If you get a call claiming to be from FSBT, hang up and call our official number at 800-877-3728 to verify.
- Report It: Let us know if you receive a fraudulent message so we can help protect others.
